Child Protection Summit 2024

The Child Protection Summit 2024, jointly organized by the World Childhood Foundation and Safeguard Kids Foundation, aimed to address child sexual abuse in Thailand.

Raise awareness about child sexual abuse in Thailand.
Advocate for stronger and more comprehensive legal reforms.
Promote collaboration between government agencies, private organizations, and charitable institutions to combat child sexual abuse in Thailand.

Objectives of the Event

During the event, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed to enhance the quality of life and protection of children and youth from abuse and sexual exploitation, both socially and legally. This MoU was signed by representatives from three ministries:

Ministry of Interior - Mr. Suttipong Juljarern, Permanent Secretary
Ministry of Social Development and Human Security - Mr. Anukul Peedkaew, Permanent Secretary
Ministry of Justice - Ms. Phongsawat Neelayothin, Permanent Secretary

Scope of Cooperation

Developing Child and Youth Potential
- Enhance the quality of life for children and youth, ensuring they become capable and resilient citizens.
- Strengthen family institutions and provide life and vocational skills to children.
- Establish partnerships between government and private organizations.
- Improve laws supporting child development and protection.
Protecting Children from Abuse
- Safeguard children and youth from all forms of abuse and sexual exploitation.
- Strengthen law enforcement and revise criminal laws related to child sexual abuse to meet international standards.
Addressing Legal Status and Citizenship Issues
- Ensure that children and youth receive fundamental rights and protections from the state.
- Reduce the risk of victimization, sexual exploitation, and human trafficking.
Providing Assistance and Rehabilitation
- Offer physical and mental rehabilitation for affected children, youth, and families.
- Coordinate systematic support in line with human rights principles and legal frameworks established by each ministry.

The Hidden Truth in Thailand

As part of the Child Protection Summit 2024, an exhibition titled "The Hidden Truth in Thailand" was held to raise awareness about child abuse and exploitation. This exhibition presented the background and mission of the World Childhood Foundation and Safeguard Kids Foundation in both Thai and English.

Key highlights included:

Human Trafficking Statistics: Displaying data on child trafficking and online sexual exploitation occurring in Thailand.
The Tragic Story of 'Rose': A heart-wrenching account of a 14-year-old girl deceived into traveling abroad for work, only to be sold into slavery. Her harrowing experience, captured in her own words— "And I scream. And I cry. I not have period yet. And I have blood in my body. And I very scared. I never see blood like this. And I very hurt."—was depicted through images and artwork.
"Ten Colors of Children's Rights": Showcasing key aspects of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child through ten symbolic colors, advocating for equal rights for all children.
